Backup.Help is a cloud-based backup service that automatically stores and protects your files in multiple locations. Backup.Help features de-duplication at the block level, making it possible to store near terabytes of data on less than 100 GB storage space, with the same speed as storing only a few gigabytes.
A compressed backup is made by compressing backed-up file content into a single file so that you can store it with less space.
Backup.Help makes compressed backups for all the files and folders in your account by only uploading new or modified data blocks to our storage servers on-demand. This means after each backup, Backup.Help automatically deletes previous versions from the server, so you can always restore your latest backup.
So both deduplication and compression help make total backup storage used less than the actual folder size on your server/computer. However, when restores the data is decompressed, so you get at the time of restoring the data you need.
One more thing - Differential backup
Backup.Help only backup differential data - not all data uploaded every day. Files and folders are unchanged since the last backup is not uploaded to our servers on-demand. So on daily basis, you will see very small data uploaded however you will notice total backup storage is way higher + you will notice a "Success" message is there that means the backup was completed without any error.
