A web hosting account is an investment in a "tool for your business", not a burden. It is a good investment for your business if you need a web presence. A web hosting account will provide you with the resources to share your business on the internet. Having a web presence on the internet is crucial for any business, and having the correct web hosting plan can help you reach your target audience.

It is very important to consider the needs of your business and your target audience before investing in a web hosting service. Business hosting is something that must be taken seriously, as it will have a major impact on your success and ability to grow.

Which hosting type can have higher uptime, this we can understand based on the uptime flow based on types of services

Cloud Server with Load Balancers (multiple cloud servers architecture)
^^^
Dedicated Server (your own private dedicated server)
^^^
Cloud VPS Server (better price than a dedicated server)
^^^
Root Server (better price than a dedicated server)
^^^
VPS  server (better price than root server)
^^^
Shared VPS (better price than vps)
^^^
Shared Hosting / Reseller hosting (Cheap price)

So from this diagram, we can understand shared hosting/reseller hosting on a shared server, may have the least uptime compared to dedicated or cloud servers with load balancers sort of high-end hosting options. At the same time, we can understand shared hosting is the cheapest form of hosting option. Where as we understand if you have a budget and higher uptime need investment in a dedicated or cloud server is a better option than a shared hosting option.

Some of the myths debunked

  • It is not mandatory that any server or type of web hosting will have higher downtime it all depends on various factors thus there can be the situation that it's a shared hosting but wasn't ever having any downtime for over many months. Shared hosting doesn't mean anything wrong with uptime but it just means that the diagram tells us shared hosting can have a higher wait time before a solution is provided if it's related to hardware than other options.
  • Investing in a higher option of web hosting doesn't necessarily mean no downtime. Of course hardware issues is unpredictable but the higher the option the less the wait time for a solution can be due to the architecture of the specific hosting option from the diagram. So example if there is a hardware issue it can take longer to solve on shared hosting as compared to a cloud vps server. As shared hosting servers have multiple accounts and restoring takes a higher time if we are dealing with downtime resulting from hardware issues.
  • Buying servers with data center directly will minimize the downtime - Most of data center offer unmanaged services and also the network or hardware issue are provider independent that mean they can happen anywhere and anytime, no matter who is your service provider. For example an OS reinstall is required with all runtime software reinstallation then situation remains the same as OS and software installation takes their own time nobody can speedup as they are system processes.

Software issues v/s Hardware issues v/s Network issues

Network-related issues

Since we deal with leading data centers only throughout the world thus these are the rarest types of issues to happen. We generally don't see even such issues happening on a repeat basis or sometimes no such issue ever for years while working with the data center. However, if any such issue happens we at Webji fully depend on a data center for updates and can only share an update as soon as we have it from the data center team.

Hardware-related issues

These are also the rarest issues and Webji is fully dependent on the data center to do the required check or investigation of which hardware has failed to cause the issue, replacing the bad hardware components. This type of issue is also rarely seen sometimes no such issue for months or years as at Webji we deal with industry leaders among the list of data centers.

Software-related issues

These are the issues generally in hands of our team at Webji and most of the time we shall expect of faster solution for such issues as far as it's under our coverage area. For example, a service that is offline and just needs a restart can be a quicker few minutes solution for uptime as compared to if the OS is courpponted may require the entire server to be restored which takes higher time. However, in case of solving the software issues, it will always take more time for shared hosting if server-level software issues are there as compared to vps or root or dedicated server sort of other options where limited # of clients are hosted since most of higher hosting option is the client-specific solution not shared server.

What to expect from Webji when there is downtime?

  • Be in touch with the data center if it's a hardware or network or full server downtime issue and our team is not able to access the server remotely to manage or repair it and accordingly share concrete information time by time to Webji's client.
  • Report issues to the data center as soon as they are noticed and confirmed by our team internally that a data center intervention is required.
  • Providing you an ETA for things that are under Webji's direct control. Here point to be mentioned any ETA for 3rd parties won't be possible including the data center until they share an ETA.

When there is a small service issue such as a MySQL restart is required or any other Mail/FTP/IIS restart is required such issues can be resolved quickly as are self-managed by the Webji team. However if its a data center-related issue and we are depending on their updates then client's cooperation is requested as even if you send us 10 more emails or followup with us that will not speedup a 3rd party data center reply or their processes.

At the same time not every technical issue is same, sometime our team can comeup with solution in few minutes if its a small issue however on other end restoring or reinstall of server and its components can be a time consuming task.

Webji is a group of web hosting experts in the market for almost 2 decades and people who are associated with Webji for a few years are aware of the kind of commitment our team has in-service support that is for what we are known for.  If things are in our hands we will not leave any option behind however at the same time if we are depending on data center for update or if you have purchased shared hosting for an uptime sensitive application and there is a hardware issue on shared server your cooperation with the same in highly requested or you shall invest in appropriate hosting option even that was the purpose of making this article to make clients aware of various hosting options and their relation with uptime consequences.

From Webji, we will recommend if you have a high sensitive website or application kindly order web hosting services accordingly. Having a high end requirement business and hosting that on shared server both can't work as any business app shall be hosted on appropriate higher solution as details explained above.

Above all if you need our help in deciding which plan is better suitable to your custom needs feel free to discuss your requirements with our team at support@webji.services our team will be more than happy to assist you and suggest you an appropriate suitable solution based on your requirements.
